Gateway Provider
The payment gateway provider authorizes and
captures the initial credit card information. They then
pass the information on to your payment processing service.
The payment gateway is a complex system of
computer technologies and processes that allow merchants
to electronically submit payment transactions to the payment
processing networks (i.e., the Credit Card Interchange
and the Automated Clearing House Network) via the Internet.
More specifically, payment gateways provide the necessary
Internet infrastructure that enables merchants to accept
credit card and electronic check payments from Web sites.

Authorize.Net provides Internet Protocol
(IP) payment gateway services that enable merchants to

Note
you must have both a Merchant Account and a Gateway Provider
in order to accept credit cards.
We recommend the combination of CDG Commerce
and Authorize.net to establish your merchant account and
set up a "virtual terminal" (required since the
card is not present).
