Social Networks - MySpace and FaceBook
Social networks are web site that allow users to interact with each other, search for each other, post information about themselves and comment about other people. Social networks have become increasingly popular with certain groups of people, particularly younger people. Of all the social networks MySpace and Facebook are the most popular.
MySpace and FaceBook
If your target audience is teens or college-age people, you may want to consider establishing a presence on either MySpace or FaceBook. Creation of these accounts is free and adding information and pictures is relatively easy. Generally these types of accounts are used to highlight individuals or groups of individuals (such as music groups, comedians and filmmakers) rather than businesses. That being said some socially oriented businesses, most notably bars and restaurants, have had some success promoting their establishment on these social networks.
If your primary target audience is 15-25 year olds, then you may want to consider establishing a free account with one of both of these services. We recommend you review the types of pages posted on these sites and consider whether your business or organization is compatible with similar pages found on the site. We do not recommend that you use a MySpace or FaceBook page as your primary web site, but instead consider it a supplement to a properly created web site.
